Drawing advice was created by Archived Forum Admin
This question is posted on behalf of a reader; advice welcome:
Our online pickling and phosphating has gone out of order and the take-up stand gears have broken. I am unable to pickle and phosphate 7 mm and 8 mm high carbon wire rod and cannot draw it to 3 and 4 mm respectively, on my 8 block wire drawing machines. Could you please suggest any method (other than conventional pickling) - mechanical or chemical - so that I am able to draw the wire rods?

With the information it seems it would be easier to repair or replace the broken gears than to get involved in other descaling processes. Options as follows:
1.-Chemical descaling in batch.
a) Acid tank protected for Hydrochloric or Sulphuric acid.
b) Rinse tanks.
c) Phosphate and Borax or equivalent solution tank.
d) Overhead or other type of crane.
2.- Mechanical (Mechanical Descalers from Manufacturers)
a)Pulleys to break the rod scale
b)Brushes, or types of grinding wheels,
c)Tank to add phosphate and Borax or equivalent.
Please give more information
