Coated Wire
Wire given a thin coating of metals such as tin, lead, nickel, etc. The coating is done by hot-dipping or plating, chemical or electrolytic. The coating is done for either corrosion protection or to improve other properties, such as adhesion to rubber or for appearance. Another material is PVC, often used as a coating for chain link fences. Special coatings also include the application of an insulator or dielectric to the surface of an electrical conductor for such applications as building wire, magnet wire, power distribution, high voltage, and telecommunications.
